It was only a matter of time before the operators of the Euromillions game came up with a strategy to deal with those upstarts at the all new Health Lottery. It seems that the latest Euromillions promotion titled “Millionaires Month” might just do that.
As we posted earlier there is a month long promotion for Euromillions set to start on 25th November and running through to 23rd December. In this promotion UK players have the added bonus of winning in the Millionaire Raffle – a free addition for UK players to the main Euromillions Draw. There will be 25 winning Millionaire Raffle tickets for 23rd December and 18 winning tickets for 23rd November. We went away and worked out some fairly simple odds based on last years Christmas ticket sales to see what kind of opportunity the Millionaires Month offers to players when compared with the odds of winning the Health Lottery, here’s what we found.
Last Christmas there was £101,886,777 worth of Euromillions tickets sold, that roughly converts to 50m tickets taking into account the Euro exchange rate. On average, somewhere between 25% and 33% of Euromillions ticket sales originate from the UK so as an average figure we can say that roughly 15m tickets were sold in the UK.
If ticket sales this year are similar to last year then that would mean the approximate odds of winning in the Millionaire Raffle are 25 in 15m or 1 in 600,000 (25 winning tickets out of 15m tickets sold).
When compared to the Health Lottery with jackpot odds of 1 in 2,118,760 that means you are almost 4 times more likely to win the Millionaire Raffle than the Health Lottery Jackpot. But that’s not all…… Millionaire Raffle pays out a guaranteed £1m compared with the £100,000 offered by Health Lottery meaning that you are not only 4 times more likely to win but when you do you will 10 times more. And yet there is still more…. Millionaire Raffle is only a side game to the main Euromillions draw. With each Millionaire Raffle ticket you also have a chance of winning one of the main Euromillions Jackpots. With the Euromillions prize pool inflated by increased Christmas ticket sales even 3rd tier prizes for matching just 5 numbers could land you well over £100,000 (odds of matching 5 numbers 1 in 3,236,995).
So in summary (for the 23rd December 2011 draw):
Health Lottery:
1 in 2,118,760 odds of winning £100,000
Euromillions:
1 in 600,000 odds of winning £1m
+ 1 in 3,236,995 of winning over £100,000
+ 1 in 6,473,989 of winning over £500,000 and
+ 1 in 116,531,800 of winning over £12m
So, our tip for Chirstmas 2011, save up your cash and put your money on 25th November and 23rd December Euromillions draws – Health Lottery just doesn’t come close to offering the same opportunity to change your life forever! Of course for normal draws the Health Lottery offers fantastic odds.
